If your team are big Slack users, then you’re going to love our Slack integrations.
- Login with Slack
- Start a video chat right from any Slack Channel using “/hqremote”
- Send HQ snaps to any Slack channel using “/hqsnap @user” when you see someone making a funny face, looking great or picking their nose.
This guide will take you through getting your team set up with the HQ Remote Slack integration. Note that the HQ Remote Slack app is only available for HQ Remote Pro users, but you can enjoy it during your 7 day trial also.
Step 1 - Link your account to Slack
From inside the HQ Remote app open up the side navigation and click on the “Account” link. You may be prompted to login again for security purposes.
Scroll to the bottom of the Account page and click the “Link to Slack” button. If you’re already logged into Slack, you’ll be directed to the Slack authorization screen, otherwise you’ll be asked to login to your Slack account.
Note: If you have already used the “Login with Slack” button, then you’ll see a message telling you your account is already connected.
Click the “Authorize” button on the Slack authentication page, and you’re done. You can now login to HQ Remote using your Slack account and access the other HQ Remote Slack features once your team is connected.
Step 2 - Install the HQ Remote Slack app
From inside the HQ Remote app open up the side navigation and click on the “Account” link. You may be prompted to login again for security purposes.
Scroll to the bottom of the Account page and click the “Add Team to Slack” button. If you’re already logged into Slack, you’ll be directed to the Slack app authorization screen, otherwise you’ll be asked to login to your Slack account.
Click the “Authorize” button on the Slack authorization page, and you’re done.
Step 3 - Have your team mates link their accounts to Slack.
In order to start calls using the “/hq” command, or send photos of a team mate direct to Slack using “/hqsnap @user”, your team mates will also need to have their Slack accounts linked to HQ Remote.
Have them visit their HQ Remote Account page and follow the instructions outlined here in Step 1.
How to use “/hqremote”
Using the /hq command in Slack lets you start an instant video chat without having to interact directly with HQ Remote itself. You can start a chat with one team mate, multiple mates or a whole channel. Here’s some example commands:
- /hq @user - starts a video chat with a single user
- /hq @user1 @user2 - starts a video chat with multiple user
- /hq @here - starts a video chat with any active users in a channel
- /hq #channel - starts a video chat with the whole channel
How to use "/hqsnap"
When you use HQ Remote it’s a given that you’re going to get caught in some hilarious poses, and those poses deserve to be shared with everyone. So we created the /hqsnap Slack command to save you taking screenshots and uploading them manually to your Slack channel. Here’s some example commands:
- /hqsnap - to send your own latest photo to any slack channel
- /hqsnap @user - to send a photo of your teammates current snap to any channel
- /hqsnap @user #hashtag #hashtag2 - to send a photo to any channel and tag it
- /hqsnap #hashtag - to recall a random photo for a certain hashtag
Post some snaps in your Slack channel and you can all have a jolly old laugh at your teammates expense! Priceless.
